Little Italy on the Hudson Whacked

Pier 40 gets most of the attention as far as confusing Hudson River Park pier development goes, but Pier 57?the West 15th Street structure that was a temporary protesters' penitentiary during the last Republican National Convention?is just as screwed up. Originally set to be Leonardo at Pier 57, complete with a marina and a gourmet banquet hall, the plan has been circling in a hold pattern ever since partner Giuseppe Cipriani pulled out (perhaps because of mob ties!). It was unclear whether developer Steven Witkoff would continue with the Leonardo vision, but now it's very, very clear: Witkoff has withdrawn from the project. So where does that leave Pier 57? The Hudson River Park Trust will now "re-evaluate its options," which basically means get ready for more hot Chelsea Piers action!
