All is not just hotels and luxury apartments in Lower Manhattan, at least not in Battery Park City. Mercy Corps?one of the three nonprofit groups chosen by the Battery Park City Authority to occupy storefront space in The Riverhouse at a charge of $1 per year?has unveiled the plan for its 4,000-square-foot facility. The $5.4 million Action Center to End World Hunger will "educate visitors about the root causes of hunger and poverty, motivate people to action and provide the tools needed to engage a broader public in the ongoing struggle against poverty." The high-tech interactive space was designed by Ed Schlossberg of ESI Design and is shooting for LEED platinum. The Action Center to End World Hunger will be adjacent to the Irish Hunger Memorial, setting up quite the Battery Park City Starvation District. After visiting both, famished do-gooders will definitely want to hit up the City Bakery location that's also coming to The Riverhouse. Now that's just good planning.
