The one thing that can be said about the discussions about giving Coney Island a radical redo is that it hasn't been boring. There has been conflict. There have been surprises. And, tonight, there is likely to be a theatrical and very telegenic clash between supporters of the city's new plan and new-organized opponents who liked the Thor Equities strategy better at the first in a series of public meetings. Opponents, led by State Sen. Carl Kruger, who shut down a November meeting, are said to be busing people to the meeting, which will be held in a 1,200-seat auditorium. Supporters sent out an email for people to show up in costume, like the ones at this demonstration. Why do we get the feeling the focus will be on political theater rather than the substance of the proposals?
