MoMA Will Park its Prefab Toys Outside

New, 1 comment

The folks at MoMA understand the value of prime Midtown real estate, so they are filling a vacant lot adjacent to the museum on 53rd Street with ... real estate. Announced today, the museum has commissioned five architects to build prefabricated homes for an exhibit that will open next summer. All of the participating architects and firms were given $175,000 to realize their vision, and they all have oodles of experience in the field of prefab housing?so hot in these days of pseudo-eco-consciousness. They are: KieranTimberlake Associates, Lawrence Sass, Douglas Gauthier and Jeremy Edmiston, Oskar Leo Kaufmann and Albert Ruf, and Richard Horden of Horden Cherry Lee. Above is Horden's Micro Compact House, 76 cozy square feet of living cube space that can be yours for a few thousand euros. Helicopter transport not included, 'natch.
