GOVERNORS ISLAND?As part of Open House New York, the normally cordoned-off southern portion of Governors Island was open for tram tours over the weekend. This is the part of the island that's not a protected historic district, and will one day be the serene and marshy park designed by West8 and others. Surprisingly, demolition is already underway, even though the funding situation hasn't been sorted out. Also, renovation of the building that will house the Harbor School (the maritime-themed high school currently in Bushwick) has progressed to the point where they're expected a 2010 opening. Talk about a commute! And the Super 8 motel on the historic side of the island has already been demolished and cleared. [CurbedWire Staff]
BROOKLYN HEIGHTS?The Standish Arms, one of the buildings sold by the Watchtower Society (aka Jehovah's Witnesses), has hit the market as a renovated rental. Halstead is marketing the building. It's a 12-story building with 94 units from 400 square foot studios to 1,000 square foot two-bedrooms. Rent? Well, that'll be from $2,200 to $5,900 for studios, one and two-bedrooms and $7,200 to $15,000 for "deluxe, larger one-of-kind apartments." [CurbedWire Inbox]
