SOHO?Want to vent about the Tower of Garbage? Sunday is the day. Per a press release, "The Community Sanitation Steering Committee will rally and picket in front of the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) MN 1 Garage at 297 Canal Street (corner of West Street) as well as in front of UPS on Sunday, November 16 in the hopes that Council Speaker Christine Quinn will instruct her colleagues in the City Council to vote against a (DSNY) proposal to build a Half-Billion Dollar 12-Story garage “Taj Mahal” at Spring Street. The cost of this project has risen by 60% since 2007." And did you know that Sanitation Offices and Locker Rooms have waterfront views? No way! Alternate community proposal here. [CurbedWire Inbox]
EAST WILLIAMSBURG?Most people don't know what the hell the Broadway Triangle is, let alone that there is a pitched battle about rezoning the 50 or so acres that it makes up. The battle has been bitter and ugly and involved nearly ever group and power broker in the area. Now, there's going to be a protest with "Over one hundred residents and community leaders from Williamsburg, Bushwick, and Bedford-Stuyvesant will gather along with their elected representatives in protest of City-sponsored redevelopment plans for the Broadway Triangle section of north Brooklyn at a public scoping session on Monday, November 17th at 3pm in front of Brooklyn Borough Hall." The groups say the process "excluded the majority of community members living and working around the Triangle. Many perceive that they were left out because of long simmering racial, ethnic, and political divisions prevalent in the area." In other words, your basic Brooklyn love fest. [CurbedWire Inbox]
