Introducing the Center for Architecture Science and Ecology (CASE), the environmentally-friendly cadre of architects and academics currently ferreted away in what was once the accounting department in Skidmore, Owings & Merrill's H.Q., at 14 Wall Street. A collaboration between Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the firm, CASE is an experimental testing ground for green building means and methods, many of which tend to start out on the "visionary" end of the reality scale. Case in point: car exhaust-purifying “eco-chimneys.” [NYT]
