"A point that often gets lost is that the LPC has three primary responsibilities; to identify potential landmarks, to designate those buildings and properties that are deemed significant and then to regulate the designated properties. All of these activities would greatly benefit from the agency getting more resources from the city – response to community desires for designation (both identification and designation) would be faster and design review would also be accelerated. It’s an agency of less than 65 people who are responsible for over the oversight of 25,0000 properties in NYC and last year, they issued over 10,000 work permits."
