Richard Rogers Gets Port Authority Nod, Rendering Revealed

New, 30 comments

As expected, the Port Authority and its development team (a partnership between Vornado Realty Trust and the Lawrence Ruben Company) announced the selection of Richard Rogers' Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners as the architecture firm that will design the new office tower planned over the north wing of the Eighth Avenue bus terminal (52% of Curbed readers agree with the decision). Of course the press release makes no mention of when work on the 42-story building will begin?but in a spectacular bit of strategy that completely distracts us from the numerous questions regarding the project's financing, future tenants, etc.?the Port Authority has included this dazzling new rendering of the Rogers design. The Port Authority Bus Terminal with a massive green roof deck? Wowzers. At least the homeless people who sleep in the station will now have a camping option.
