Tomorrow's the big day for long-suffering Flushing-Meadows Corona Park, the site of the 1939-40 and 1964-65 Worlds Fairs, when a plan for a "sweeping makeover" will be unveiled. It's said to include preserving the crumbling former NY State Pavilion and, of course, the iconic Unisphere. But it calls for filling in what was once a grand fountain (and is really part of the Flushing River) to create a "great lawn." A lot of the 1,255-acre park's paths, which are holdovers from the Fairs would also be removed. Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe says the plan "is very fluid." [NYDN]
