On the Market: The ZOMFG Penthouse at 140 Perry Street

New, 29 comments

"My dream space has just hit the market! Too bad Hugh Jackman just mortgaged his face for a floor in 176 Perry. This lebensraum is far superior -- the potential!" So gushed the lovestruck reader who alerted us to the grand arrival of the penthouse at 140 Perry Street, its first time on the market since '03. Absolute stunner, people -- we'd love to annex each and every one of its Elliman-advertised 7,500 square feet. Or is it 7,801sqft, as Property Shark? Or maybe the whopping 8,100 that Corcoran claims? (And don't forget about the bonus 3,500sqft in terrace space.) Architect Michael Haverland reconfigured the full-floor duplex in this turn-of-the-century former stable -- two of the original eight units in the building -- into 5BRs and 4.5BAs of 16-foot-high ceiling living, complete with five fireplaces. Do note the library and grand, sky-lit staircase traversing both floors. The $19,500,000 asking price seems somehow reasonable, even in these times. Guess we're just suckers for beauty.
