How Much Does That Water Cost?

New, 4 comments

We have to say the monstrous water filtration plant under Van Cortland Park in the Bronx is one of our favorite stories of a public works project run amok anywhere in the US. "Rising construction prices, design changes and a dearth of bidders have more than doubled the cost of a gigantic water-filtration plant being built 10 stories beneath a Bronx driving range, budget experts have found." The cost of the plant is now expected to be $3.1 billion. That's up from $1.3 billion in 2003. The original cost estimate was $660. The final cost? We're going to guess significantly higher than $3.1. [AP/NYDN]
