Curbed Cup 2nd Round: (11) Dry LICe vs. (14) Old East Village

New, 2 comments

The Curbed Cup, our annual award to the New York City neighborhood of the year, is taking on a different tone in this, its fifth running. West Village, Long Island City, Williamsburg?they've all been done. Instead, we're mixing things up by focusing on the most newsworthy microneighborhoods. And now, let's wrap up the second round.

It's a battle of dark-horse low seeds in this, the fourth and final second-round matchup in this, the 2008 Curbed Cup Tournament of Neighborhood Excellence. Upstart #11 seed Dry LICe—the development-frenzied interior of Long Island City, excluding the waterfront/QueensWest area—takes on #14 seed Old East Village, a place where yuppies are urged to die and CBGB hasn't been transformed into a John Varvatos store.
