Curbed Cup Semifinals: (2) Madison Square Park vs. (14) Old East Village

New, 6 comments

The Curbed Cup, our annual award to the New York City neighborhood of the year, is taking on a different tone in this, its fifth running. West Village, Long Island City, Williamsburg?they've all been done. Instead, we're mixing things up by focusing on the most newsworthy microneighborhoods. This is the second and last semifinal matchup; tomorrow, the finals!

So who's going to earn the pleasure of taking on the Far West Village (which took care of Red Hook's waterfront) for all the marbles—and the fake Curbed Cup trophy for the 2008 Neighborhood of the Year? In the near corner, the favorite, the #2 seed, Madison Square Park. And in the far corner, the upstart, the darkhorse, the yuppie-hating masses that comprise #14 seed Old East Village. We've got a sense this one's going down to the wire. Let's see, shall we?
