Hard Hats Required: André's Standard Opens. Kind of.

New, 12 comments

It appears that André Balazs' much-hyped Standard New York will (finally) open its doors on December 10th -- for "family and friends" who don't mind sleeping on a construction site, that is. Five floors' worth of its 300 rooms are ready to rock; the Standard's equally-hyped restaurants won't sell tables until February 2009; in the meantime, guests will find a binder of menus in each room for take-out delivery, Best Western style. Verbatim: "We are opening a handful of rooms in the midst of an otherwise busy construction site, at rates starting at $195. The price includes complimentary Continental breakfast, complimentary Wi-Fi and local calls, 24 hour concierge service and use of our lobby." Act now -- this craaazy deal is only available until February. As for the construction noise, expect that to carry on well into the future.
