The Cooper Square is a hotly anticipated large and luxurious boutique hotel in a buzzy location scheduled to open soon. It's a race to see who can outrage the neighbors first, and though the Meatpacking District's Standard announced a delay, HotelChatter has a photo of the patio furniture recently put out in front of André Balazs' baby. Not to be outdone, the East Village's Cooper Square Hotel?which we believe is still on track for an opening this week(?)?is getting its plywood stripped away right now, revealing its wood-paneled lobby wrapped in frosted glass. Lost in all of this: HotelChatter also reports that the Smyth Tribeca, the West Broadway hotel/condo from Jason Pomeranc's Thompson Hotels, is opening in January. After epic delays at Thompson's 6 Columbus and Thompson LES, that would truly be a Christmas miracle. Alert those hip in-laws!
