The Gowanus Whole Foods project, which has had a look of abandonment for about half a year and no approvals from the city, has taken a small step forward. Yesterday, the Department of Buildings issued permits for construction of the building's foundation, "marking a huge symbolic moment in the project's—and neighborhood's—history." Followers of the project might recall the groundbreaking...in 2006. The actual building plans, though, haven't been approved and there's no sense of whether Whole Foods will actually start work at the site. [Brownstoner]
