Hands Off Our Hams

New, 2 comments

Last week, NYU held one of those "Check out our crazy expansion plans!" informational meetings in the East Village, which ended up getting totally overrun by a bunch of oldtimers who flipped out about the potential shuttering of the Met Foodmarket on Second Avenue and Sixth Street. NYU owns the building, and the school is looking to triple the rent on the supermarket. An NYU spokesman was caught completely off-guard by the onslaught, and said, "We thought we were having fruitful discussions with Met Food and we’re disconcerted that they’re bringing community groups into the discussion." Vanishing New York reports that the fun will continue at a CB3 meeting on April 15. [The Villager]
