By summer's end, the Lower East Side's Stanton Street will have a new salon called?sigh?Pimps & Pinups, an offshoot of a popular London-based salon of the same name. "The Lower East Side and East London are so similar it’s unbelievable," said the store's manager. The word "pimp," meaning a man who controls prostitutes often via violent and abusive means, was briefly used at the turn of the century by white males to describe their own sexual prowess.
