Union Rats Busy in Brooklyn

New, 5 comments

All those union blow up rats that you see at work sites around town have stories behind them. This week, Tom Robbins rips into the Brooklyn side of some of those tales in the Village Voice, looking at Toren, which is rising on Flatbush Avenue, and a downtown Sheraton Hotel. (The subhead is "In this age of housing gluttony, high-rise builders sink to new lows.") The story isn't a pretty one: wages that are one-third to half of union sites, long work hours, short paychecks, threats against union organizers, etc. [Village Voice]
