Red Hook Gets an 'Urban Meadow Bklyn'

New, 7 comments

This is Urban Meadow Bklyn, an 8,000-square-foot site located on the corner of President and Van Brunt Streets, in the Columbia Waterfront District in Red Hook. The spot has a long and convoluted history involving an 18-year effort to turn it from a vacant lot to a community garden-like space. The email full of hyperbole that came with the before & after pics describes it as a "lush, verdant pasture for people—with its grove of young flowering dogwoods and wildflowers" and calls the opening the end of "a nearly twenty year battle to bring a spot of green to the Brooklyn waterfront." The people pasture opens on June 11.
