Once the crew topped out that big block of concrete on The Bowery, otherwise known as the new Cooper Union academic building, we knew it wouldn't be long before the meshy metal facade from Thom Mayne / Morphosis made its presence known. And now it has, and it's looking completely cool. A tower of perforated panels have gone up on the southeast corner of the building. Early in the day the sun gleams off the thin skin. By late afternoon the light plays through the tiny holes, making most of the facade translucent. But in patches where the skin is solid the light bounces off, and the building glows. It's an effect better seen than described, so flip through the gallery for the full flavor.
