Power to the People! And Here's Their Pier

New, 21 comments

The "People's Pier" proposal for Pier 40, a collaboration between non-profit after-school program developer Urban Dove, summer camp specialists CampGroup and parent group Pier 40 Partnership, was presented to a Community Board 2 subcommittee last week, and Downtown Express has details on the revised plan for the massive bi-level soccer paradise?not to mention that new rendering, above. The $430 million restoration/renovation still faces a lengthy approval process, but here's what Villagers and Sohoites can expect: three public school (but maybe four), 2,400 parking spaces on the first two floors, three revenue-generating swimming pools, a public seating area on the roof, a small dog run, an event space and retail, retail, retail! Oh, and soccer, of course.
