Location: 113 East 78th Street
Asking: $17.5 million
The notion making the rounds that there's a shortage of unaffordable housing in Manhattan sent many guessers north of $20 million for this townhouse. And given where the luxury market has been heading lately, we can't really blame them. But as one commenter pointed out, this ain't the widest house on the Upper East Side, and as another pointed out (via some illicit sleuthing), this house sold for about $7.4 million in 2004, so in the end a paltry $17.5 million is the ask here. Here's the funny thing: they'll get it. Some were close, but nobody could quite nail the exact amount. Better luck next week!
