CurbedWire: Get (Sort of) Free Bikes, More Willets Point Protests Coming

New, 3 comments

SEVERAL LOCATIONS?Need a free bike? Well, the Bike Share Project, which will be offering free 30-minute bike rentals from July 10-1 kicks off tomorrow. The locations for the bike "rentals" and, hopefully, returns are the Storefront for Art and Architecture at 97 Kenmare Street and three City Bakery/Birdbath locations at 3 West 18th Street, 223 1st Avenue and 145 7th Avenue South. More info about the brave experiment here. The Department of Transportation is actually looking into creating a citywide program. [CurbedWire Inbox]

WILLETS POINT?There's another protest tomorrow about the city's $3 billion redevelopment plan for Willets Point, which recently gained the support of the local community board. The protest will happen at the Queens Borough President's office before a public hearing on the plan. (The Borough President is expected to give the plan a thumbs up.) The Willets Point Industry and Realty Association (WPIRA) is leading the protest. Oppoents are calling for the ouster of the head of Community Board 7, who is said to have used "strong-arm tactics" to get members to vote for the city's plan. About 3,000 people work in Willets Point. [CurbedWire Inbox]
