In advance of this morning's City Planning Commission hearing, there is an update into the Sanitation Department's garbage garage proposal for the western end of Soho, but it's regarding the companion salt shed the city wants to build on Spring Street. A tipster writes: "At Monday's City Planning Review Session it was revealed that the Arts (now Design) Commission had rejected DSNY's design for an 'insubstantial' tensile Salt Shed structure and told them to go back to the drawing board to look at 'some type of masonry structure' that would be a more 'prominent design' for the corner of Canal, West and Spring Streets. DSNY has proposed an 80' tall 'lean-to' that will be open-ended on it's eastern side, facing the Holland Tunnel Vent Stack exhaust fans."
