On the Market: Greenpoint Church Ready For Conversion

New, 13 comments

The 138-year old Saint Elias Church on Kent Street in Greenpoint is the latest house of worship to hit the market with an eye on residential re-use. Voracious real estate machine Massey Knakal has the listing, calling the former Reformed Dutch Church of Greenpoint a "conversion property" with "spectacular prewar details." The listing says the property will be delivered vacant, but whoever buys it will have to do his magic inside; the landmarked exterior has to remain intact. No price tag for the beauty ("competitively priced" is the phrase used). The church was designed by architect William B. Ditmars in the?deep breath now?High Victorian Early Romanesque Revival style. It's made of brick, brownstone and whitestone. In the past few years, the building has fallen somewhat into disrepair. ?Brooks of Sheffield
