Living with Legends recently came into possession of a program created for the 100th Anniversary of the hotel, way back in 1983. The black-and-white program includes this note from then-commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Bess Myerson: "There is, perhaps, no other hotel in the world that has been as important to the creative process as the Chelsea. For one hundred years the hotel has provided a safe haven to an impressive array of artists. . . .it now deserves to be recognized as a New York City treasure. A century of anything is a long time. A century of nurturing and supporting the creative process is a remarkable achievement. Bravo!" [Living With Legends]
