FINANCIAL DISTRICTAll this talk about the Lam Group's razing of 213 Pearl Street got us wondering what 211 Pearl Street is looking like nowadays, as Rockrose's curious let's-stick-a-tower-behind-a-flimsy-preserved-façade experiment continues. Thankfully, a special Curbed tipster sent us a photo, showing that the new building is getting glassed and balconized. Kind of a menacing looking photo, similar to another favorite façadomy up in the East Village. [CurbedWire Inbox]
WEST VILLAGE?The campaign to turn 75 Morton Street into a new middle school gets serious tonight with a rally outside the property, and a small victory has already been achieved. The GVSHP writes to supporters, "late yesterday, the City formally requested that the State allow 75 Morton Street to be converted to a public school, rather than sold off to the highest bidder for development ... However, the story is far from over. No decision has been made by the State. And recent decisions by the City to rezone the area around 75 Morton Street and to allow condo-hotel development in this neighborhood has increased development pressure on this site and will increase the temptation to sell the building off to the highest bidder, rather than preserve it and use it for a much-needed public purpose."
