The way to a person's heart is through his stomach, and the way to a neighborhood's heart is through?obvs?a new gourmet grocery store. Developers know this, so in the case of 250 East 57th Street?the 59-story rental/condo building designed by SOM?the World-Wide Group is winning over the locals by giving them all the organic quinoa they can handle, by way of a new Whole Foods. Our friends at Racked point us to a Crain's story on the deal, which reports that the building, at Second Avenue, will be done in 2012. As previously reported, the 320-unit building (60% of it will be condos) is replacing P.S. 59 and the High School of Art and Design, but the schools will get new facilities inside the high-rise, making this the wonkiest condo/rental/school/grocery building we've ever seen...that's not in Dubai.
