Yes, we're a little obsessed with watching the Edge in Williamsburg come together. The huge development, which covers two full blocks between Kent Avenue and the East River, is now adding two floors a week. The first tower was at 14 stories at the beginning of the week and is expected to top off sometime in November. In the meantime, about 500 workers a day are on the site, simultaneously working on both the north and south parts of the development. The project was at a far more modest stage in early July. The way things are going, we're not disinclined to believe a late 2009 finish. Phase I of the project involves 575 luxury units and 347 affordable units, which will be in the low-rise buildings close to Kent Avenue. There will also be about 100,000 square feet of retail space in those buildings. The South Edge building will be 30 stories. The North Edge building will be 15.
