In Soho, 42 Floors of Trump is Just. Not. Enough.

There are those in Soho that would still like to see the Trump Soho condo-hotel torn down?but guess what, outraged locals? The building is growing! A curious press release was issued late Friday afternoon by Community Board 2, admonishing the Department of Buildings for permitting the Trump Soho developers to add a 43rd floor to the previously 42-story Spring Street skyscraper. CB2 chair Brad Hoylman wrote:

It's unfortunate that D.O.B. would reward the developer an extra floor for this extremely flawed project, which is already a blight on the neighborhood. The Buildings Department should be penalizing them for their string of safety violations, not gifting them with more floor space. Indeed, here's the public record of the approved permit. So, does this mean that?contrary to popular opinion?people are actually buying these residence-restricted hotel rooms? Maybe The Donald is worth his cut.

“The Community Board is outraged to have learned that the Buildings Department has unilaterally decided to give the SoHo Trump Condominium-Hotel at 246 Spring Street an additional floor, making the project 43, instead of 42, stories high. It’s unfortunate that D.O.B. would reward the developer an extra floor for this extremely flawed project, which is already a blight on the neighborhood. The Buildings Department should be penalizing them for their string of safety violations, not gifting them with more floor space.

Moreover, the community had no notice that an extra floor was even being contemplated by the developer. This is particularly troubling since the Community Board has worked hard with D.O.B. and our local elected officials to increase communication between the developer of “Trump SoHo” and the local neighborhood, including instituting a construction hotline (tel. 212-448-3996) and holding monthly meetings with the developer. It’s extremely disappointing that the developer didn’t see fit to give us notice and apparently demonstrates their disregard for the community’s concerns.”
