Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz has worked hard to cultivate a cheerful persona and be "Marty" to everyone. According to today's Daily News he's also been kind of "Daddy" to his to his own non-profit. Best of Brooklyn, which Markowitz founded in 2002, got nearly $700,000 in city contracts without competitive bidding or city review. Some contracts were for $24,999 to beat the $25,000 threshold for scrutiny. The group promotes Brooklyn tourism, helps with events like the the Brooklyn Book Festival, etc. [NYDN]
