Julian Schnabel's Palazzo Chupi, already combating a lack of buyers and closet space, must now contend with that most frustrating of adversaries: imitators. And while this old tenement building at 334 Grand Street on the Lower East Side, sporting a brand new four-story addition, would never be mistaken for the Chupster by way of looks?check out its new moniker: Palazzo Grey. That's right: Downtown Manhattan has its second Palazzo. What to make of this Palazzo Grey? We're not sure. The BelDel building was recently being marketed for $13 million, which was then knocked down to $11 million before the listing vanished in July. Is the new owner a very proud Mr. or Ms. Grey? The building formerly was home to Lismore Hosiery on the ground floor, so maybe Palazzo Underpants should have been considered. Your response, Chupi?
