A Tale of Two Spring Streets

New, 28 comments

Downtown Express has a word with Richie Gamba, the "Mayor of Spring Street," who has lived on the block for 72 years: "There's a couple of people from the old neighborhood who are still around. We sit and reminisce. But we old types, we're secretive. We're used to protecting each other. In the '80s, most of the Italians started moving out. Now they sell our old places for 275 grand." Meanwhile, Downtown Express also reports that the Trump Soho, a Spring Street building where you can not get a place for 275 grand, has resumed work and will be fully sheathed in glass by next month.
