It's hard to know the way the David and Jed Walentas Dock Street development proposal is going to go, although one can strongly guess which decision maker is holding what hand of cards. A Community Board committee has voted against the 18-story residential building, which would include a public middle school, and the full Community Board will vote on Wednesday. Yesterday, about 75 or 100 people turned out to stand in the cold and protest against the building, which they say, among other things, is too tall and will block historic views of the Brooklyn Bridge. The actual power to approve the building rests with the City Planning Commission and City Council. [Dumbo NYC]
UPDATE: A Two Trees spokesperson notes that the community board's education subcommittee is in favor of the project, whereas the land use is not, and offers this statemen from the firm: "Numerous land use and design professionals and hundreds of community members have stated that Dock Street Dumbo is well-designed and contextual. We believe that it is the right project in the right place at the right time.”
