The fire-scarred shell of 61 Fifth Avenue is set to be torn down to make way for a new mixed-use 10-story building, but before that happens, Vanishing New York pays tribute to building's plywood. Why? Because artists have been going nuts on the place, turning 61 Fifth?a cool curvy building that was a Schrafft's luncheonette in a former lifetime?into the city's latest street art destination, filling the void created when Nolita's 11 Spring Street got buffed. Though 61 Fifth is marked for death, the memories will live on, at least for that artist seen enshrining the building's current state on canvas.
