While not as stinging as word of the demise of the Bowery's Amato Opera, theaterfolk will no doubt be upset to hear that the Garment District's Zipper Factory theater and its adjoining tavern have closed. The Zipper, on West 37th Street near Seventh Avenue, opened in 2001 in a former zipper factory (obvi) and offered plenty of edgy, alternative and at times scantily-clad fare. The owner have no explanation for its shuttering. [Playbill]
