Hotel developer Sam Chang enlisted his trusty sidekick, architect Gene Kaufman, to design an 11-story, 162-unit gray box at Fourth Avenue and 13th Street, but the site has been dormant for a year. Make that had been dormant, because broker-blogger Andrew Fine presents improbable proof that steel is finally rising on the McSam Hotel Group project. Oh, and he adds: "You can bet that some of the owners at 77 East 12th Street are wishing that the financial meltdown would have stopped this one altogether. Gotta hate those lot line windows!"
