We been in the Edge, but caught some recent shots of construction progress at the site that nearly make our brains explode because they of the way it is transforming the Williamsburg waterfront. This used to be the site of the Eastern District Terminal which brought freight via rail barge to and from Brooklyn. For years, they were two empty blocks used for different storage purposes. The structures closest to the street are affordable housing and retail. The luxe housing is in the high rises The goal is finishing Phase I at end of 2009. As for Phase II, given the economy, who knows. Phase I involves 575 luxury units and 347 affordable units. The latter will be distributed by lottery. The former are about 25 percent sold. There will also be about 100,000 square feet of retail space in those buildings.
