Community Board Tosses Shutout Against Fordham Expansion

New, 28 comments

Fordham's desired Lincoln Center expansion is off to a rocky start (one day we'll get a new image of the thing, we promise). We've already dabbled in the great lengths the school's Upper West Side neighbors are going to in an attempt to defeat the build-out of the superblock?between 60th/62nd Street and Columbus/Amsterdam Aves.?and those lengths seem to be paying dividends. Last night, Community Board 7 voted 31-0 against the plan, which the Fordham Neighbors United group has derisively nicknamed the "Fordham Fortress." According to a Crain's report in advance of the meeting, CB7 believes the proposed new buildings are too large and bulky, and the university's plan to sell two plots of land to developers to help pay for construction is a no-no (the land was acquired by Fordham through eminent domain for the purpose of education?hey, sound familiar?). Fordham said it will continue working with the community board to address its concerns.
