The idea's been kicking around for nearly a decade, but there's a new study out today on the dream to transform 42nd Street into a pedestrian-friendly, light-rail equipped boulevard. A few details of the report on vision42 (which, it bears noting, was penned in part by one of the vision42 chairs): construction costs of $411 million to $582 million; economic benefits of $704m plus $175m in "additional fiscal benefits"; and responses to several of the most common critiques of the project. For more renderings, check out this Curbed post from 2006 or the official vision42 site. [CityRoom]
