Many words have been written recently about the recession's impact on the hotel market, but a free Manhattan hotel room? That's a new one. Of course, there's a catch. Midtown East inn the Roger Smith Hotel (#246 out of 412 NYC hotels, per TripAdvisor) is putting up a British couple for five days in a replica of one of the hotel's rooms on the ground floor of a nearby building. The only condition? They must be in the room and keep the curtains open between 4:30-7:30 p.m. each day; a living ad, if you will. Worth a free stay? Depends?are free nips from the minibar included?
