In an indictment to be unsealed today, the rigger who oversaw the raising of the tower crane on East 51st Street that last March collapsed and killed seven people will face a slew of charges connected to the tragedy, including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and reckless endangerment. The charges against the rigger, William Repetti, stem from "reckless and negligent rigging practices" that caused four nylon slings that were being used to hoist the crane to fail. Last year's other fatal crane collapse, at the Azure on East 91st Street, is still under investigation. [NYT, previous]
