Sixth Avenue Hotel Will Have 302 Reasons to Stay a While

New, 6 comments

Our recent update on a trio of new towers along Sixth Avenue in the blocks leading up to Herald Square included some construction shots of 835 Sixth Avenue (between 29th & 30th Streets), a massive bit of Perkins Eastman architecture that we said would be a 53-story hotel from the Fitzpatrick Hotel Group. Well, we heard from the folks at JD Carlisle, the project's developer, and they wanted us to clear up a few things. The building will be 54 stories, thankyouverymuch, and it will be so much more than just a hotel. Oh, and it'll be managed by Kimpton Hotels?they have a few other properties and doing the VU Hotel in Hell's Kitchen?not Fitzpatrick. Confused? Let us explain:

The hotel, with interior designs by McCartan, will feature 292 guestrooms and suites; a 4,000 square foot ballroom; approximately 10,000 square feet of additional conference and meeting space; over 8,000 square feet of outdoor terrace space and a full-service spa. The 54-story glass exterior building will also include 302 luxury residential apartments enhanced by Kimpton’s signature hotel amenities and services. Acclaimed restaurant operator, China Grill Management, will operate the restaurant and two bars in a multi-level, 20,000 square foot venue. Now that's the kind of ambition we need during these dark days! According to the writeup that accompanies the renderings on the Perkins Eastman websites, the building is actually 34 floors, so who knows?maybe we're screwing something up again! Whatever the height, the Chelseaish construction is well underway, and JD Carlisle is expecting completion in early 2010.
