Adventures in Adaptive Reuse

New, 2 comments

A former DMV office near City Hall has completed a $12 million conversion that turned the dour space into...a wedding chapel. The new Manhattan Marriage Bureau replaces the cramped digs in the city's Municipal Building, where last year 16,000 couples got hitched, and was designed by Jamie Drake?who did Madonna's L.A. home and Mayor Bloomberg's UES townhouse (now that's a marriage we'd like to see). The comfy new digs have two chapels, a shop for last-minute essentials (flowers, tissues, rings), a backdrop of City Hall for photos and a deal with TheKnot.com to arrange NYC wedding travel packages. Eat it, Vegas! [NYT]
