City planners have starting pushing new bike parking requirements that would apply to new construction that are part of the city's goal of doubling bike commuting by 2015. The proposal even has the support of developers, though it's unclear how many were sober when they said, "That's a great idea!" Apartment buildings would have to provide one indoor bike-parking space for every two apartments. Office buildings would need one bike space for every 7,500 square feet of space or about 100 to 200 spaces for an average building. The Planning Commission will have hearings on the zoning change next month and the City Council will take it up in the spring. [NYP]
