And Now, the Crazy Pier 40 Speculation of the Week

New, 6 comments

Ambitious plans to redevelop Pier 40 at Houston Street and the Hudson River have repeatedly crashed and burned, but the soccer/parking mecca still needs $20 million in repairs?not to mention a way to generate revenue for the upkeep of Hudson River Park. And so the Hudson River Park Trust will try, try again to find some sort of operator with a plan that won't make Mario Batali jump out of his Crocs. The Villager has the early world on some potential suitors: A London Eye-style giant Ferris wheel, or maybe condos. Sound, um, less than thrilling? Well, interest in the pier "has dwindled." Molto Mario, how about a supersized Otto?
