Notorious Finger Building developer Mendel Brach has been barred by the state from selling condos for at least the next five years, but it's not the Williamsburg debacle that did him in. It was the cheating in Bed-Stuy, where he got a zoning variance to building nine-story buildings on Spencer Street for faculty housing, only to turn around and sell the 72 units all on the open market. The buildings lack permanent certificates of occupancy, wracked up numerous violation and have pretty much financially ruined the buyers.
