Jersey City Hopes for Its Own High Line

New, 12 comments

High Line co-head honcho Robert Hammond went to Jersey City this weekend to visit the Embankment, the High Line's sister project in the garden state. He came back an Embankment convert -- and brought photos! He rhapsodizes: "I was blown away immediately upon spotting the half-mile structure that once carried freight for the Pennsylvania Railroad. The Embankment holds an untouched beauty, and really reminded me of the feelings I had years ago in the early days of the High Line." The Embankment land is currently owned by a developer who planned a residential project for the site, but Jersey City and the Embankment Preservation Coalition are suing the developer to keep the Embankment for public use. The coalition hopes to turn it into "walkable, bikeable greenway."
